What to Expect
What should I wear for a flight?
You should wear appropriate clothes. It is generally 5-10 degrees cooler and therefore long pants are recommended and possibly a light coat. Shoes need to be tie on, no flip flops, sandals, heels, or open toed shoes. Landing location could be muddy or damp so please wear items that you don't mind getting dirty.
What type of weather conditions are needed to fly?
Hot Air Balloon passenger flights take place in winds less than 6 knots, with no rain or approaching storms within 100 miles. Flights also require visibility of at least 3 miles and ceilings of at least 3000 feet.
WHERE DO WE MEET?
We will meet at our Munnsville, NY location unless otherwise advised approximately 30 minutes before your flight.
What should I bring?
First and the most important item to bring is your sense of adventure and a camera to capture all of the beauty of your flight. Leaving a second camera with one of your friends or family members to take pictures of your flight from the ground is also highly recommended.
How high do we go?
We generally will travel from tree tops to several thousand feet depending on weather, wind direction, and passenger comfort level.
How long does a flight last?
Flights generally last between approximately 45 minutes to an hour depending on weather and landing site availability.
Can I bring friends and family?
Yes, we encourage you to share this experience with anyone that you'd like. We do ask that any people participating in the chase to follow the rules that the Chase Crew will discuss with them prior to starting the chase. The most important of these is to not enter anyone's property without permission from either the land owner or one of the Chase Crew. Landing on someone else's property is a privilege and not a right. Land owner relations are very important to ballooning.
What time of day can we fly?
We can fly right at sunrise or a two hour window before sunset. These times are both the safest and the most favorable times to fly.
How safe is a hot air balloon ride?
Ballooning is one of the safest forms of aviations. There are strict weather and wind guidelines in ballooning. The slightest risk of rain, fog, or wind conditions will cause the flight to be cancelled. Safety always comes first and is never taken lightly by Royalty Ballooning.
Can a flight be cancelled due to weather?
Yes, a flight could be cancelled early on the day of your flight or last minute due to weather conditions at flight time. We know cancelling and rescheduling can be difficult but your health and safety always come first, no exceptions. Your flight will be rescheduled for the next earliest available time.
What can cause a cancellation of a flight
As safety of the passengers, crew and equipment is of utmost priority, flights will sometimes have to be cancelled. Various factors can cause cancellation such as weather conditions, equipment malfunction or pilot injury or illness. Your safety is our concern and we will not fly if this is jeopardized. If your flight is cancelled, simply reschedule for another flight.
How do we get back to the launch site?
The chase crew will flood along using both sight and radios to track the balloon. They will assist us in landing and packing up the balloon when we land and then return us to the launch site.
Are there any age limits?
Age is not as important as your health and any possible disability issues. Checking with your physician prior to your flight is highly recommended. Younger passengers should have the ability to take and understand instructions (safety first), see over the basket edge standing flat footed, and not have a fear of the burner as it is fairly loud. If possible, bringing them to one of my other planned flights to see how the respond to the burner is recommended.
Are there any height limits?
Height is only restricted to being tall enough to see over the edge of the basket and short enough to not singe your hair when the burner is fired.
are there any weight limits?
Yes, my balloon is limited to 600 lbs combined passenger weight not including the pilot. Individual weights are not important as long as the combined total does not exceed 600 lbs. On extremely hot days, weight limits may have to be adjusted which you will be informed about necessary changes.
